      News — SF Store

      So long, farewell...

With a heavy heart we have come to Kirk's last day with us as the manager of our SF store. He's headed off to the opposite end of the country and we're very sad to see him go, but glad that he'll be having new adventures. He's left an indelible mark (literally and figuratively) and we couldn't have made the move to Portland without knowing we'd be leaving our store in his capable hands. We can't thank him enough for all his hard work and dedication. It's been a real pleasure to work with him and he will be truly missed. But San Francisco's loss will be New Haven's gain, so get in touch if you have fun Connecticut tips or a job for our soon-to-be transplant.

Good luck Kirk and happy trails!

826 Valencia: Food Talk and Letters to Obama

Our officemate Chris Ying is hosting a Food Writing workshop at 826 Valencia (which resides just across the street from our SF store). Chris is an editor at McSweeney's and manages the Voice of Witness series (Lart C. Berliner did the cover art for this book and a few others in the series). The books give voice to human rights issues through first-person oral histories and are worth checking out if you get a chance.

In other 826-related news, their Programs Director and one-half of the Big Stone Head team (purveyor of tees, mini comics, postcards, and Lincoln pillows at our store), Jory John, has edited a new McSweeney's book of kids' letters and drawings titled Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country. You can get them at the Pirate Store or pick one up from us if they're closed.

      6 Years Old Today!

We opened our store 6 years ago today, back on October 4, 2002. Those were the days! Thanks to all our old and new friends, especially Lart who shares a birthday with us today!
