Our friends at Beija-flor in Porto design this once-a-year limited edition notebook and it really is a special item. They invite an illustrator to choose a name and theme for the notebook (this volume was by João Fazenda) and include a poem on the inside cover in Portuguese and English (written by Frederico Marques).
Each journal is handmade from the open binding with matching yellow thread, to the hand-screened covers, sponged edges, gold foil stamping on the front cover and spine, and hand-numbered edition & stamp in the back. This is a true labor of love, artistry, and craftsmanship.
Measures 5 3/4" wide x 7 1/4" tall, 160 blank pages. Hand-pulled screen-printed raw pressed cardboard covers with a textile spine. Interior pages of FSC-certified 100gsm cream paper that lays flat. Numbered limited edition of 200. Handmade in Portugal.
The poem on the inside cover reads:
sign of a deciduous time,
proof of a cycle that insist on being
unveils warm, imminent cradle
of perennial history.
I let myself in.
