Our friends at Beija-flor in Porto design this once-a-year limited edition notebook and it really is a special item. They invite an illustrator to choose a name and theme for the notebook (this volume was by André Letria) and include a poem on the inside cover in Portuguese and English (written by Frederico Marques).
Each journal is handmade from the open binding with matching green thread, to the hand-screened covers, sponged edges, gold foil stamping on the front cover and spine, and hand-numbered edition & stamp in the back. This is a true labor of love, artistry, and craftsmanship.
Measures 5 3/4" wide x 7 1/4" tall, 160 blank pages. Hand-pulled screen-printed raw pressed cardboard covers with a textile spine. Interior pages of FSC-certified 100gsm cream paper that lays flat. Numbered limited edition of 200. Handmade in Portugal.
The poem on the inside cover reads:
It looks like a day,
a day like yesterday.
Soon it is another.
No destination, though far,
from what it should or could.
On going, the going stays.
He who dreams and free is, goes
and from naught sets to find.
