This limited edition Blackwing Volumes is a tribute to Sister Corita Kent. Corita was an educator, artist, and social justice advocate who believed that art could be a tool for dialogue, reflection, and change. Interstate 93 in Dorchester, Massachusetts is where her "rainbow swash" mural is located that the brushstrokes on the pencils come from (there are two each of six colors in the set). The pencils have a glossy finish, black imprint, matte white ferrule and white eraser. The graphite is soft.
The unsharpened pencil measures 5/16" wide (barrel)/3/8" wide (eraser) x 7 15/16" tall. Pencils are made in Japan with California incense cedar and Japanese graphite. Erasers are made in Vietnam. Comes 12 pencils in a sturdy black box that can double as a pencil holder. Cardstock sleeve fits over the box with info about the pencil theme.
Partial proceeds from this pencil set will support continued work in art education through the Corita Art Center.
